Most dive sites are moored
sites or drift dives. We do our best not to use our anchor which could ruin
precious coral and marine life. Caye Caulker and the extended community are
working hard to preserve the barrier reef for many years to come. You will soon
see more permanent moorings on the Caye Caulker local reef. All dive sites that
are accessible from Caye Caulker are boat dives.
HOL-CHAN MARINE RESERVE
Hol-Chan Marine Reserve is an
excellent diving area easily reached from Caye Caulker and is one of the
favorite sites for tourists. The reef structure runs East to West; inside the
reef coral rises to the surface in a long snaking ridge and outside gently
slopes down to 35 feet/ 10 meters, unveiling many shallow water corals and an
abundance of gorgonians. The sloping shelf is dramatically cut with deep cracks
and crevices winding to the reefs outer edge where a great wall drops to depths
beyond 130’/ 40 meters. Since fishing is restricted in the Reserve you will
often encounter larger fish to include what the Reserve is famous for—Spotted
Eagle Rays, Barracudas, Loggerhead Turtles and friendly Nurse Sharks.
The site
is excellent for the novice to advanced diver.

CYPRESS TUNNELS
This site is one of the many dive sites found in the Hol-Chan Marine Park.
Begining your dive at 40-45 feet/13-14 meters divers descend to a large open
tunnel at 50 feet. The tunnel is approximately 25 feet/8 meters long and
descends to 70 feet/20 meters at the exit. Don’t be surprised if you find a
Nurse Shark wanting to pass you in the tunnel. On the way to the tunnel and
following the exciting swim through, divers encounter Nurse Sharks, huge
Groupers, schools of yellowtail Snapper, Barjacks, and occasionally a Moray
Eel. This site is also famous for the spotted Eagle Ray with wing spans of over
6 feet/2 meters. The numerous yellow-tailed Snapper and ever-friendly Nurse
Sharks find pleasure accompanying you to your destination and back. As at
all of our sites, abundant colorful smaller fish can be seen schooling in the
corals or in mid-water. This site is excellent for both novice and advanced
divers.

THE CAYE CAULKER
NORTH CUT
The
reef formation at this sight is much the same as at the other sites in the Hol-Chan
Marine Park. Huge coral canyons provide sanctuary to lots of marine life.
Since this is a cut in the reef and a channel, at times the currents on this
dive are fast and make for a great drift dive. Depths for the dive range from
35 feet/10 meters to 130 feet/40 meters and beyond. Often seen on the dive are
Dolphin, Sea Turtles, and Spotted Eagle Rays. Most recently Hammerhead Sharks
have been spotted. As always there is an abundance of smaller fish at this
site. This site is excellent for all diving levels.

CORAL CANYONS, CAYE CHAPEL REEF
These two sites are located only minutes away in the waters east of Caye Caulker
and both offer spectacular diving. Divers can see giant Southern Stingrays,
majestic Spotted Eagle Rays, friendly Loggerhead Turtles, schools of horse-eyed
jacks, thousands of small fish schooling among the corals, and an occasional
Nurse shark. These dives are equally fascinating for the beginner and the more
experienced diver. Visibility often exceeds 100 feet at these sights.
$80USD - 2 tank dive
ANNIE’S DELIGHT/ ROCK BEAUTY/THE CANYONS
These three sites located on our local reef offer some of the best diving in
Belize and are only moments away. This dive is offered at least once a week for
those divers needing refreshers or for those divers who want to dive but do not
want to go too far away. Local diving is often touted as not good, but this is
not the case at these sites on our local reef. You can encounter the same large
and small marine life as the other sites and the canyons and corals are
spectacular. The sloping shelf dramatically cuts deep cracks and crevices
winding to the reefs outer edge where the great wall drops to the depths of the
sea. This dive is equally good for all divers.

ST
GEORGES CAYE WALL
Wall diving at its finest, beautiful white sand channels mirroring ski slopes
gently guide you and your dive buddy to a spectacular colorful coral wall with
unlimited visibility. Giant sea fans and sea whips span the waters as you gaze
down onto the wall. Depths for this dive range from 45 feet/15 meters to 130
feet/40 meters depending on your dive plan. It is easy to lose track of your
depth. Looking up to the top of the wall you spot schools of Horse-eyed Jack,
Blue Tangs, and Sargeant Majors. Dolphins are frequently seen at this sight.
A must for all visitors to Belize.

TURNEFFE ATOLL REEF-NORTH END

A
favorite for many visitors, Turneffe Atoll offers numerous dive sites from the
North end. Beautiful reefs and dramatic walls offer incredible diving with
outstanding visibility. A favorite site for our guests is Mini Elbow,
located centrally on the Atoll. It is at this site divers encounter Nurse
Sharks, large Grouper, beautiful Angel Fish, and schools of Blue Hamlets and
Yellowtail Snapper, Green Moray Eels, Loggerhead Turtles and Spotted Eagle Rays.
This is one site where you never know what you will see. The corals and
sponges are colorful and huge, receiving nutrients from the rich land. The
seas are almost always calm with sites on the leeward side offering great
snorkeling for those who do not want to dive. Lunch is included. A must
for all visitors to Belize’s underwater world.

TURNEFFE ATOLL REEF-SOUTH END—THE ELBOW
Like the North end of Turneffe, the Elbow offers a view of huge gorgonians and
Sponges. The added attraction to the elbow is the chance to see many larger
deep water fish because of the location at the end of the atoll. The dives are
mostly drift dives because of the currents flowing past the end of the Atoll.
Most often schools of Horse-eyed Jacks, Blue Tang, Permits, and Spade Fish are
seen flowing with the current. Spotted-Eagle Rays and Loggerhead Turtles are
most often spotted along with Green Morey Eels. Take your camera because there
is a lot to see, but be prepared to back peddle to get your model in sight.
This is an all day trip. Breakfast and lunch included. Well worth the trip.

THE
GREAT BLUE HOLE
The
Great Blue Hole is located in the center of Lighthouse Reef Atoll. It measures
1,000 feet across and dips down to a mere 408 feet/136 meters. This site was
discovered by Jacques Cousteau; it is one of the most dived sites in Belize.
Huge stalactites and stalagmites can be found in the hole at 90-100 feet/30-33
meters. This dive trip is a 3-tank dive trip with dives at Half Moon Caye and
Long Caye. This trip is offered through Belize Diving Services. Breakfast
and Lunch is included.
$150USD - plus $40USD for Blue Hole and Half Moon Caye Sanctuary

SARGEANT’S CAYE WALL—SPANISH BAY

This is the newest dive site addition to Belize Diving Service’s
list of top
dive sites. The site is blocked by Turneffe Atoll to the East, thus making it
one of the sites with normally always-calm waters. Beginning in shallow waters
divers encounter large sea fans and bright corals and sponges. As divers
approach the wall they can look for Spotted Eagle Rays, Loggerhead turtles,
schools of many varieties of fish, and endless beauty. This is normally also a
wonderful snorkeling site for those who do not dive or who just want to get
wet. Lunch is included on this dive.
